ADL offers cat and dog adoptions, spay/neuter services and many volunteer opportunities.
Founded in 1934, the Animal Defense League is the oldest and only true no-kill animal shelter in the San Antonio area. No animal is ever turned away due to medical condition and none are ever euthanized if they can be brought back to health, or to make room for more animals. Our on-site animal hospital is fully staffed with highly skilled veterinarians, vet techs and animal care specialists who provide full medical services to all ADL shelter residents and spay/neuter services for families in need of financial assistance. Abused and abandoned dogs and cats taken in by ADL are medically treated and, if needed, receive behavior modification training from our in-house trainer and/or through fostering. Once each animal has received all necessary treatment, our ADL adoption counselors are dedicated to finding the best possible match for every resident cat or dog with a prospective new owner. Other services provided by ADL include pet therapy for the disabled and the elderly, humane education for school-age children, and a multitude of volunteer opportunities for those who want to help ADL provide the very best care for our furry friends!
