I was a complete novice in painting. I went to one of her classes offered by NISD Learning Center. The lesson costs around $190(?)and is supposed to run 6 or 7 3-hour sessions (If I remember right). I also spent around $300 buying the supplies listed on NISD website. After all the sessions finished, I felt that I learned little except how to wash brushes and what three different kinds of brushes look like. All other students were not beginners. The teacher did not teach anything basic like color theory and etc in the class. The students were asked to trace a picture to the canvas using the graphite paper. She did give instructions to what colors should be used to mix the required colors. But she ended making a lot of changes without informing us. In addition, the color mixes were all very basic, like red and yellow makes orange. In the end I was thinking I would just look for some good paintings in the future and copy those paintings. So I tried to ask her in the last class how to identify a good painting from a professional point of view , she told me just look for what I like. I said I don't really know how to identify. She told me that I was in serious trouble. LOL. Now I am thinking what was the point to spend the money and time taking her class, I would just find some online tutorials and draw by myself. The only pro is other students are all very friendly. I learned things from them. Maybe her drawing classes are actually what I need?

The lesson is $129, not $190. To buy the supplies, I 'd suggest any painting novices don't buy until you have the first class. Website said that $5 material fee is for the photo and the color chart. But I only got the picture. I did not get the color chart.
